It is well known to everyone that for production of food items requires a lot of resources, time and energy. Considering the amount of wastage which is currently huge we can evaluate the total loss that is being incurred in terms of the total production cost. Besides the monetary loss it also harms the environment and disrupts the balance of food that even leads to poverty, malnutrition or hunger. America is a huge country and has a huge production base which very well signifies that there is no food shortage but improper distribution of the food produced. This issue of food waste is moral, economic as well as an environmental one.
Sodexo, in its march towards improvement of the present scenario of the food wastes has moved ahead and invites people to come forward and join them. It has undertaken this initiative to spread awareness and contribute in the process of food waste reduction.
Each year US has to incur large costs in order to dispose of the food waste, majority of which is used as landfill. The general perception that is all over is that food decomposes itself but hardly people know that it degenerates in absence of oxygen (landfill) and produces a very harmful gas called methane. Methane is a greenhouse gas and is regarded as 21 times more harmful than Carbon dioxide. One of the reasons of the depletion of the Ozone layer and increasing temperatures around the world is the increased methane percentage in the atmosphere in which contribution of the food waste is significant.
The food waste evolves from homes, restaurants, grocers, supermarkets, coffee shops, convenience shops, coffee shops, etc. Techniques and schemes have also been developed in order to decompose the food waste effectively and if possible harness energy from it. Although techniques are developing people need to understand their role in order to reduce the wastage. At individual level also this can be done by proper utilization, preservation and distribution of the food resources.
Therefore for a healthier tomorrow and reduce the Global Warming Food Waste Reduction should now be looked as one of the priorities.

Reducing food waste to the minimum can be done in many ways. Such as by asking how many sandwiches or omelettes need to be prepared or what quantity of noodles are required. By asking questions on quantity, food waste can be minimized.
