In my last article on Headaches I have discussed about few main types of headaches, its causes and treatment. Here are few preventive measures that you can take to get rid of the headaches.

Do you ever analyze why you are repeatedly having these irritating headaches? What you need to do is simply note down the time and nature of the headache in a diary. In this way, you will get to know how headaches can be prevented next time. Almost all people who have headache problem apply some balm or take medicines or pain killers. Medicines will only help to suppress pain for short time duration but to get rid from the real pain you need to understand the cause. And you need to do certain things to follow certain regimen to get rid of yourself from the headache problems.

Think of a situation when you have lots of work to do once you arrive to the office starting from the daily schedule to important meetings with the clients or partners. Suddenly you are confronted with throbbing headache which will not let you do anything. Will you cancel the important meeting and apply for a leave? You cannot take leave now and then, it may happen that you will loose a business deal just for the headache. So you immediately take a pain killer and ready for the meeting, but that is not a solution to your problem. This situation came into your life several times in the past. We cannot rely only on medicines to get rid of the headache.

So, invest sometime to know the root causes of the headache and plan to live a headache free life ahead.

Few things that are really needed for the happy tension free living are exercise, tension free living, and so on. Exercise at least 3 times in a week is necessary. As far as possible, try your best to live a tension free life. Try to find a situation which induces headache. For example, do you feel headache after over sleeping during a daytime, after drinking alcoholic drink, or is it some kind of food that induces it. Many times it is also found that when people sleep for more hours during a day time, it causes headache. Your body’s natural ability to fight the disease will decline slowly by taking pain killers every now and then.

There are several herbal products and supplements available which have been proved to be effective in preventing headaches. However, natural therapies like yoga, meditation, breathing exercise are very good. The only problem with these therapies is one should do these on a regular basis; one has to be very particular about the timings to do these therapies. So we can see that medicines is nothing to do in preventing headache, it is a discipline that you need to maintain to avoid headache.

Do not take stress for every little thing in life. Stress induces headache and it is the main culprit for many other diseases also, so avoid it. Experts believe that stress is the most common headache trigger. So we need to take some precautionary measures to manage stress. A person feel stressed during the birth of a baby, death of a family members or friend, and job loss. Well these causes of stresses can be unavoidable, but the causes of everyday stress like searching for a lost document, getting late for the office, workplace tension can be avoided to a great extent. These stresses trigger headaches to many people.

When you feel angry or stressed, the stress hormones can alter the level of certain brain chemicals like serotonin which may contribute to headaches. By grinding your teeth or stiffen your shoulders in response to stress can only make your headaches worse.

Here are few handy tips:

•    Relax. Do breathing exercise whenever you get time. When you feel tensed sit aside take a deep breathe, inhale to the count of six, pause for a second and then exhale slowly.
•    Prioritize your work schedule for both office and personal to reduce stress of being up-to-date.
•    Do not take tension for every little thing which is not in your hand.
•    Take a break from work whenever you feel overloaded.
•    Listen to a soothing music. Go for a brisk walk.
•    Simplify your life. It is alright to say no sometimes.
•    Eat what is right and healthy.
•    Laughter is a great medicine, try it, you will surely get relief from the stress related headache.
