The food items which is being labeled as multi-grains or 7 grains sounds to be a healthy option.  But this is not the case. Even though as it looks a healthy choice because it contains whole grain and we all know that diets which are rich in whole grains protects us from many illness. But does the multi grains food item really contain grains in it? We need to find out that, because since we know that when the whole grains are being processed, its healthy contents just diminished to zero.

Food items that are labeled “contains whole grains” not always contain the whole grain but the grains are processed and hence its nutritive values decreases. Even though it is processed, they are still made out of grains.

So we need to be extra careful about the food which claims such things. Even the cereals that are said to be made up of whole grains contains no whole grains or very little. Before buying the whole grains food stuffs check the ingredients lists.

Most of us think that drinking a vitamin fortified drink is a good idea which keeps up healthy. But does that colorful bottle of vitamin water really help us in any way. According to Marion Nestle, a nutrition Professor at New York University, most of the American population are not vitamin deficient. Even in one of a government conducted survey, it has been found that American population mainly adults men and women already taking more than the recommended levels of most Vitamins as recommended by RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance). In case, we drink more of Vitamin E especially, it may not be absorbed by your body.

Also to be noted that each fortified vitamin water contains at least 32.5 grams or two full tablespoons of fructose or sugar. Well, fructose can be defined as a simple sugar that is present in many fruits. However, the fructose in the form of crystal in vitamin water is not the one we get from fruits but it is produced from cornstarch. In fact, no body needs the extra sugar. Like other soda drinks these drinks can also be addictive. So as far as possible these drinks should be avoided as it will not do much good for your health if you are drinking in the healthy purview.  Instead, you drink plain, calorie free water when you feel thirsty. For vitamin intake you can take a multivitamin along with your food which will make much sense.

Concentrated juice may sound healthy options but that is only the fruit sugars and water actually. However, it has been found that the juices are made concentrated by heating to remove any water. There are advantages to the company because it makes it cheaper for transportation. There are also losses of nutrients, especially the water soluble vitamin C. Freshly squeezed juice is best for health. Fruit juice company also pasteurized juices for increasing the shelve life of the juice. It is a very quick and high heat treatment method which kills most of the harmful bacteria and enables the package to survive for many days on the shelves of the store.

Most of the diet conscious adults are snacking on the energy bar. It is very much common especially in American population. Even though they contain some fruits or the granola but some of them contains very high amount of fructose from cornstarch. In fact, the high fructose contents and trans fats are needed to keep the bar soft and sweeter. So it is advisable that before buying check the labels and chose those bars which contain 11 grams or lesser sugar and no trans fat. It is always a better choice to prepare your own breakfast with the healthy choices of grains.

One of the major problems in the modern days is high sodium diet. Due to this fast lifestyle we depend mostly on the processed or junk foods. These foods are high in sodium contents which are again one of the main risks for causing high blood pressure. American population consumes near about 3,375 mg. of sodium in a day on an average and the maximum recommended value is 2,300 mg. for a healthy people. Many companies are now manufacturing low sodium products. Even though we need to be extra careful, because may be the sodium contents has been reduced if compared with the original but still it may contain sodium more than the recommended value.

In the nutshell, we need to be extra careful ourselves in choosing the right food product from the shelves and not blindly depend upon its cover.
